This website is an online archive of the work of Michel Archambault, based in Montreal, Qc. Archambault is a multidisciplinary visual artist who is equally fluent in the languages of sculpture, painting, and photography. Archambault has created an œuvre that is coherent while also being remarkably diverse. His studio work is an open scenario, linked to the process, the way of doing things, the use of raw materials, and the handmade. The presence of textiles recurrent in his work responds to the tactile, allowing him to think of the sculptural object as an emotional complexity. His work forms an ecosystem where his drawings, paintings, sculptures, or installations can echo. His practice incorporates material as a symbolic interface in minimal compositions that are times sewn and painted. Like a free script, Archambault organizes volumes and masses; pushing the boundaries of realism to create an authentic artistic language based on creative chance. These pieces maintain an improvised quality in a constant state of discovery inviting the audience to a poetic universe, where the capacity of our senses is enhanced.

Michel Archambault is a recipient of the Ministry of Culture of Québec, the Canada Council, The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, and the Krasner-Pollock Foundation.
